When people I meet ask what I do and my response is skincare, they then ask, “what should I do for my skin?”  My response is always the same.  It depends.  There is not just one product, one ingredient, or one brand that works for everyone and, no I do not think using Cetaphil is fine even though your dermatologist says so.  So with that, let’s start with A number 1, cleansing.

You must wash your face every night, and twice.  Yes, twice.  The first cleanse is removing dirt, oil, pollution and debris.  The second cleanse actually cleanses the skin.  I also advise washing your face again in the morning.  Why? because the skin is a living breathing organ therefore we secrete toxins and sweat while sleeping.  You want a clean slate in the morning to allow for your potent antioxidant serums to penetrate.  It’s also important to wash your hands before cleansing and use tepid water.  Rinsing your face with piping hot water in the shower can cause broken capillaries and dehydration.

 

P.S. For those of you who forget fall asleep or run out of time to wash your face before hitting your (silk) pillowcase,  I have a tip for you.  Wash your face first thing when you get home at the end of the day.  Don’t allow yourself to pour that glass of wine and plop onto the couch until you do.
