Here Comes the Sun

It’s time to embrace the big 3-0.  Yes, embrace the numerical number of your age but what I’m talking about here is embracing SPF 30.  SPF 15 can suffice for brief walking-around coverage but if you’re going to be outside for more than 1 hour, you need an SPF 30 or higher.  SPF 15 blocks 93 percent of the sun’s rays, whereas SPF 30 blocks 97 percent. Let’s look at this more closely and focus on the percentage of rays getting through- 7 percent versus 3 percent.  So with that, you can see SPF 30 is more than twice as effective, and that adds up.

Secondly, a higher SPF is necessary since many of us don’t apply enough sunscreen.  The higher SPF will help compensate for under application.

I am partial to physical blocks with non-nano zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.  I find these ingredients are particularly beneficial for sensitive skin and those prone to hyperpigmentation.

Do you have a favorite facial SPF?  A fave for the body?  I’d love to know what you’re using in the comments below.
