Chances are you’ve seen bottles of micellar water but might not be sure what it’s for or how to use it. As a skincare obsessive, I discovered the French pharmacie and model staple backstage at fashion week. Micellar waters cleanse skin without requiring water to rinse. The formulas are made with micelles which are tiny oil molecules suspended in water. Micelles are attracted to dirt and oil, so they draw out impurities without drying out your skin. They cling on to the dirt and makeup on your skin and dissolve them without leaving a residue like many pre-soaked makeup removal wipes. I do not recommend skipping the cleansing step or using facial wipes in place of cleansing but I will suggest a micellar water to those that tend to skip cleansing at night. They’re excellent to use as a pre-cleanser to ensure your makeup is thoroughly removed. I also tell my clients to keep one in their gym, carry on and overnight bags for when they don’t have access to their full skincare system.
In the photo you can see two of my favorite micellar water picks: I prefer to keep my skincare products and recommendations as non-toxic as possible but I do save a tiny spot in my travel beauty bag for the French cult classic, Bioderma. It’s great for taking makeup off without water and it’s really gentle and non-irritating near the eye area. If you wear heavy, waterproof eye makeup, you will want to soak your eye area for a few seconds to help loosen it up. My clean beauty pick is La Defense Urban Protect Micellar Cleansing Water from Luzern which also doubles as a toner. Being that I live in a city I love how it acts as a magnet to lift away heavy metals and pollution particles before they can wreak havoc on the skin. I also like that the bottle is environmentally friendly and made from recycled glass.
Wishing you healthy skin~
